Abigail started her first ever swim lessons this past Monday. We were concerned that she was so afraid in the water this year, something that wasn't a problem last summer. So, we thought it would be best if we put her in some organized classes before the fear got too far out of control.
The first day was a tough one. She refused to get in the water and screamed & cried the entire 1/2 hour. We talked about it the rest of the day and Steve & I kept reassuring her that she was not going to go under (her biggest fear in water where she can't touch the bottom). So, after much consideration, she decided that she was going to get in on Tuesday. I had my doubts, but I am proud to say that she did get in! She wears a swim trainer on her back (flotation device) and then also a inflatable ring. She was a little nervous on Tues, but got suited up and slid in, she did not jump in! She was so proud of herself, she kept saying "Mommy, I'm really doing it! And I'm not going under!" I sat there with Mitchell in his stroller and just watched her follow the swim teacher and was amazed! This is my little girl and I am watching her take her first swim lessons. I started to tear up as I continued to watch her. This is just the beginning of many new experiences that we are going to go through. There is something so special about your first child, you go through everything together for the first time.
She is so strong-willed, which is both a pro & a con, but when she figures out that she can do something, she is all for it! I am just so proud of her for overcoming this fear. What a big girl she is! I am so blessed by God that he chose me to be her Mommy!
